Reference object, quartz crystal ;

This reference object, as we call it, was developed as an idea in dealing with different narrative forms of the (photographic) image and time in photography. It’s a synthetic quartz. Quartz crystals have special attributes which makes them essential for the contemporary civilization, as piezoelectric material which creates an electrical signal with a very precise frequency, e.g. in quartz watches, in computers and microcontrollers, for the electrical and communications technology, radio transmitters, etc.

Dieses Referenzobjekt, wie wir es nennen, entwickelte sich als Idee in der Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedenen narrativen Formen des (fotografischen) Bildes und der Zeit in der Fotografie. Es ist ein künstlich hergestellter Quarz. Quarze, engl. crystal, haben besondere Eigenschaften, die ihn für die moderne Zivilisation unentbehrlich und wertvoll machen (als piezoelektrisches Material, welches ein elektrisches Signal mit einer sehr genauen Frequenz erzeugt, z.B. in Quarzuhren, als Taktgeber in Computern und Mikrocontrollern, für die Elektro- und Nachrichtentechnik, in Sendeanlagen etc.).
