The project focuses on impact of globalization and the flexibilization of the world of work. Our eye was hereby on a concrete example: the shifting of jobs by the company Nokia from North Rhine-Westphalian Bochum to the Transylvanian city Cluj. The shifting was announced by Nokia in early 2008. High wages and general high level of costs were cited as reasons. On Nokia's decision followed a strong reaction of workers, medias and politics, right up to a boycott of Nokia products by the german population. It was announced that the company had completed the 2007 fiscal year with record profits of 7.2 billion euros. The reactions did not influence the course of events. During our residency in Cluj, we were able to get in contact with the local situation. In conceptual analysis we draw closer to the topic within the medias of Photography, Video and Installation.

"POI" shows a circumambulation of the Nokia plant in Jucu in an anti-panoramic manner. It is related to the two facts that it’s not allowed to film or take photographs inside the factory, and that a worker can loose its job after talking for example to journalists. This has encouraged us to stay on the road, which has been built around the factory. For the projection, a temporary wall is been built out of simple material. Its construction is a visible part of the installation in the room. Behind the wall, as a marginal note, a second video is been shown.

"Strada Fabricii" is working with our own photographs and filmed material and with archive material. We took up the concept of flexibility and applied it onto the medium of film. The film starts with a narrative that is apparently pertaining to the city of Cluj: we follow Strada Fabricii, the Street of the Factory, from the periphery towards town. It takes its origin in Bulevardul Muncii, the Boulevard of Labour. The first version of this film was made for the exhibition in Cluj in April/May of 2011. The second version was re-made after the closing of the factory in Cluj was announced.

In diesem Projekt haben wir Auswirkungen von Globalisierung und die Flexibilisierung der Arbeitswelt untersucht. Im Mittelpunkt stand ein konkretes Beispiel: die Verlagerung der Arbeitsplätze der Firma Nokia vom nordrheinwestfälischen Bochum in die transsylvanische Stadt Cluj. Anfang des Jahres 2008 wurde der Umzug von der Firma Nokia bekanntgegeben. Als Gründe wurden Lohnkosten und ein generell hohes Kostenniveau genannt. Auf die Entscheidung Nokias folgten in Deutschland heftige Reaktionen der Arbeitnehmer, der Medien und der Politik, bishin zu einem Warenboykott seitens der Bevölkerung von Nokia-Produkten. Es wurde bekannt, dass die Firma das Geschäftsjahr 2007 mit einem Rekordgewinn von 7,2 Milliarden Euro abgeschlossen hatte. Die Reaktionen hatten keinen Einfluss auf den Lauf der Dinge. Während unseres Aufenthalts in Cluj konnten wir die Situation vor Ort kennenlernen. Wir näherten uns dem Thema konzeptionell in den Medien Fotografie, Video und Installation.

"POI" zeigt eine Umrundung des Nokia-Werks in Jucu in einer antipanorama-tischen Weise. Es steht im Zusammenhang mit den beiden Tatsachen, dass es nicht erlaubt ist in der Fabrik zu fotografieren oder filmen, und dass Angestellte nach Gesprächen mit zum Beispiel Journalisten ihren Job verlieren können. Dies hat uns dazu bewegt auf der Straße zu bleiben, welche einmal um die Fabrik führt. Für die Videoinstallation wird eine temporäre Wand aus einfachem Material errichtet. Die Konstruktion bleibt ein sichtbarer Teil der Installation im Raum. Hinter der Wand, wie eine Randnotiz, wird ein zweites Video gezeigt.

"Strada Fabricii" ist aus eigenen Fotos und Filmmaterial und aus Archivmaterial aufgebaut. Wir haben den Begriff Flexibilität aufgegriffen und auf das Medium Film angewendet. Der Film beginnt zunächst erzählerisch. Wir folgen Strada Fabricii, der Straße der Fabrik, von der Peripherie in Richtung Stadt. Sie nimmt ihren Ursprung im Bulevardul Muncii, dem Boulevard der Arbeit. Die erste Version dieses Films wurde für die Ausstellung in Cluj (April/Mai 2011) erstellt. Die zweite Version wurde nochmal neu erstellt, nachdem die Schließung des Werks in Cluj bekannt gegeben wurde.
